She shot me a dirty look as she put another bear in her mouth. "You love them and the way they make your dick feel," she purred and I thought back to that night she gave me head with one in her mouth. The combination of Cara's lips, the tingling warmth, and cinnamon made that blow job the best one I had ever had.
I looked over at her with a wicked grin. "Make sure you save some of those for later."
When I had agreed to help Blake set up for this party, I didn't think I would be hanging fucking streamers and tying up balloons all over his damn house for over two hours. It doesn't help that Matt didn't show up at four like he was supposed to. Luckily, Cara was here—she was a pro at this—climbing up and down the ladder, making everything perfect. Of course, I helped when she needed me, but mostly I just stood behind her holding the ladder—her beautiful ass directly in my face.
My dick couldn't take it anymore. It was going to blow just from watching her.
"There, finished. How's it look?" she asked.
Still looking at her backside I replied, "Perfect." Grabbing her around the waist I pulled her off the ladder and the giggle that escaped her only made me want her more. I dropped her down on the couch and climbed over her.
"Kiss me, firecracker." And she did. Fisting her hands in my hair she kissed the shit out of me. Roaming my hand over her breast and down her stomach, I made my way down to her sex, rubbing her through her jeans. She pushed her hips upward, grinding into my palm as she began to moan.
I started to unbutton her jeans so I could feel her wetness and she moaned loudly with anticipation. From the corner of my eye I saw a figure standing in the doorway, watching us. I jumped up, ready to fight, but relaxed a bit when I recognized it was Matt.
"Don't stop on my account, it was just getting interesting." He laughed, leaning against the door frame, his hands shoved into his pockets.
"Oh, shit!" Cara yelled, scrambling to her feet, Matt's unannounced entrance frightening her.
"What the fuck?" I bit at him. "Don't you know how to knock?"
"I'd knock, if it were your house," he said with a fucking smirk as he walked into the room. "But it's not." He laughed, looking around. "Nice work, are you finished?"
"Yeah, thanks for showing up to help by the way," I mocked as he sat down on the couch.
"No problem." Propping his feet up on the coffee table, he turned and looked at Cara. "Hey, I'm Matt. I don't think we've met." He extended his hand to her.
"Cara," she replied shyly, taking it. Her cheeks were still a little flushed from Matt's entry.
"Nice to meet you, Cara, sorry if I startled you before, I take every chance I can when it comes to Cam. It's too much fun watching his face turn red when you mess with him." He chuckled as he looked at me. Matt was such a cocky son of a bitch but his lack of arrogance astonished me.
"No worries, it's becoming a regular occurrence and I'm learning to deal with it." She giggled and my dick twitched again. What I would give to be buried deep inside her right now.
Fucking Matt! It was going to be a long fucking night.
I had never been more embarrassed. I couldn't believe Matt had sat there and watch Cam and I as we practically mauled each other on Blake's couch. If Cam hadn't seen him I don't even want to think how much he would have seen. When I jumped up from the couch I was beyond pissed at Matt. I mean, what kind of pervert does something like that. But once I started talking to him I changed my tune.
Matt was easy to talk to and easy to look at. While he wasn't my type, physically, his warm voice, with a nuance of a Texan accent, flowed like butter on a hot summer day. He looked like your typical all-American boy from next door with a hint of country charm. As he and Cam got wrapped up in a discussion about football I couldn't help but take in how charismatic he was. His friendly, sea green eyes stood out almost as much as Cam's baby blues and there was something about him that put me at ease.
Before I knew it, it was almost six. Brent was setting up his DJ equipment in the living room and other guests were beginning to show up. Cam and I didn't recognize anyone, but Matt seemed to know almost all of them. He greeted each one as they entered the house, pointing out where the drinks were and telling everyone what the surprise plan was for when Blake arrived with Tessa. He seemed at home here, sauntering around like he owned the place. That was until he introduced Cam and me to Tessa's parents. He was becoming very anxious, his eyes shifting to the front door every few seconds as if he was waiting for someone to arrive.
I was shaking Craig and Elaine's hands when I noticed Matt had stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes fixated on a beautiful spunky blonde that had just arrived. He looked as though he wanted to run to her, sweep her off her feet and carry her away, but he was hesitant. The moment their stares connected I could see why, her blue eyes narrowed and her arms crossed over her chest, it was a sure fire warning that he should stay away. Lowering his head, he turned and walked into the kitchen where he grabbed a beer and chugged it. I had no idea who this girl was but Matt was obviously in deep with her.
"Who's that?" I leaned over and whispered to Cam. The blonde's eyes shifted to our little group and she began making her way over to us.
"I don't know, but it looks like we are about to find out."
"Craig," she called out when she was almost to us. I looked over at Tessa's father. The warm expression on his face made me believe he'd known this girl for quite some time. "I didn't get a chance to thank you for dinner. It was awfully sweet of y'all to pick up the tab. Thank you so much."
"You're welcome, dear," Craig replied kindly. "Have you met Cara and Cam yet?" he asked the girl while motioning to us.
She looked over at Cam and me, her blue eyes sparkling. "No, but I've heard so much about y'all." Her thick southern accent was freaking adorable and I couldn't help but smile as she continued to speak. "I'm Tessa's friend, Lexi," she introduced herself.
"Oh, okay, Tessa talked about you last weekend. It's nice to have a face to put with the name," I said as I reached for her hand. "I'm Cara and this is Cam." She pushed my arm out of the way and startled me when she wrapped her arms around my neck. I wasn't used to such sincerity when meeting people.
"Any friend of Tess is a friend of mine," she stated, releasing me.
Her body tensed as Matt started walking out of the kitchen. "So, you work with Blake as a firefighter?" she asked Cam, her eyes nervously darting back and forth between him and Matt.
"Yep, sure do, just another proud member of station #34," he said, swollen with pride. I smiled at his answer and laced my fingers through his. Nothing was hotter than Cam talking about his line of work.
I don't even think Lexi heard what he said she was so focused on Matt. "Are all of the firefighters on your shift taken or are some of them single?" She finally geared her attention towards us.
"Actually, we're all single, well, except for Blake," he said, inadvertently shooting me in the chest and I released his hand. He looked at me sideways, his eyes large with apprehension as if he knew what his words were doing to me.
"In that case, do you think you could introduce me to some of them?" she asked rather boisterously, looking behind us.
I heard an aggravated sigh and when I looked over my shoulder, Matt was stomping away rather quickly. Lexi's eyes never faltered from him and with each step he took, she grew more distressed.
"Trust me, Lex. There isn't one guy on Blake's shift that's worth it," I lashed out impulsively. Cam's words had hurt and by the look on his face mine did too. His nostrils flared as he inhaled a deep breath and without a word, he turned and trudged heavily after Matt.
Lexi looked surprised, with one eyebrow raised, as she watched him walk away. "Did I say something wrong?" she asked me.
"No, Cam's just...well, he's..." I didn't even know how to explain it.
"A man?" she said, tilting her head and wrinkling her nose.
"Yep, that about sums him up." I laughed nodding my head. "Is Matt—"
"Ugh, let's not talk
about him," she interrupted me. "He's not even worthy of being called a man."
"Uh-oh, what did he do?" I questioned her.
"It isn't what he did, it's what he hasn't done," she said with a scowl on her face. "It's a long story, but I'll give you the quick version. Basically, he gave me one of the best kisses of my life, said he would call, and then didn't." I could hear her voice breaking a little as she began playing with the rhinestone cross around her neck. "After a week of no word and not handling the rejection very well, I called him. He didn't even have the nerve to pick up the phone. I had to bitch him out over his voicemail"
"What a douche!" I exclaimed.
"Tonight is the first time I've seen him since the kiss." Her gaze turned in the direction the guys went. Even though they were out of sight, she stared at the door as if she could see through it. "Why does he have to be so hot?" she whined. "I mean, it would be a lot easier to stay mad at him if he wasn't."
Just then the door she was staring at flew open and Matt came rushing through it. "They're here! Every one shut up and get down."
A rush of silence fell over the house and Matt turned out all the lights as we eagerly awaited the guest of honor.
The party had gone off without a hitch. Tessa looked as if she was going to cry when we all jumped out and yelled surprise. Not really knowing very many people at the party, I kept to myself. Cam was still ignoring me and I didn't even know why. He had started this whole punching each other in the gut game when he spouted off about being single, which technically, I guess he was.
No labels, remember?
Maybe I overreacted to his comment. Reminding myself one more time that we weren't together I decided to look for him.
I hadn't seen him since he went out back after Tess and Blake arrived so I decided to start there. Pushing my way through the kitchen, I headed for the back door. The glass slider was open and I could hear his voice drifting through the screen along with Matt's. I stopped just outside the door when I heard my name come out of Cam's mouth.
"I don't know, Matt. I mean, being with Cara scares me," he admitted. "Being with Amber never scared me."
"That's because you hadn't been hurt yet, man," Matt told him. "Whatever this Amber chick did, you can't hold that against Cara. She isn't Amber."
Cam chuckled a bit. "I said those same words to Cara about her ex. Maybe I should start taking my own fucking advice." He paused and I heard him sigh. "I know Cara isn't Amber but...it's complicated. Amber was my first...everything. I'm so fucking pissed at her for leaving but a part of me understands why she left. Ya know?" Cam's voice was quiet as he spoke. "I just don't know how to push away the fear and let Cara in." My stomach sank, my heart fluttering in my chest.
He wants to let me in.
"Then she goes and makes a comment like the one she did and it pisses me off to no end."
"Well, Cam, I don't really know what to tell you, except I think you are over analyzing way too much. I would be super careful with this one, don't let her get away unless you're sure it's what you want, because once you do it's gonna be hard to get her back."
"Cara, what are you doing?" Tessa's voice made me jump.
Tripping over my own two feet I stumbled back, colliding with the wall, praying I hadn't been caught eavesdropping. "Uh, just looking for Cam, have you seen him?" I asked her, playing dumb, my eyes broad with trepidation.
I heard the rustling of chairs on the deck and within seconds Cam was walking through the door. "Looking for me?" he said, his voice stern as he stepped closer, invading my space. His scent filled my senses, making me dizzy with desire.
"Umm, yeah, is everything okay?" My eyes shifted to Matt as he came through the door. "I haven't seen you all night," I added, looking back at Cam. He didn't say anything as he stood before me, his stare heated. He must have still been mad at me for my comment earlier.
"Cara," Tess called out again. Titling my head I looked at her. "Come do a shot with me, lady." She twirled her hair and motioned me to follow her.
Looking up through my lashes, I waited for Cam to respond but there was nothing but silence. That was my queue—I took a step towards Tessa when his arm lifted, his hand connecting forcefully with the wall behind me. "She'll be there in a minute, Tess. I need to speak with her first," he insisted, his eyes still penetrating into me, keeping me in place while my mind ran in circles.
I didn't even see Tessa walk away. The only thing I was focused on was two intensely blue circles.
"Did you mean it?" he asked me and my brow creased in response. "When you said I wasn't worth it?"
"I don't know, Cam, I was mad at you for saying—"
"Yes or no, firecracker," he cautioned, interjecting.
"No," I whispered, looking down at my hands. "I didn't mean it."
Gently, he slid his hand behind the nape of my neck as he used his other hand to lift my chin. "Neither did I," he confessed. "You belong to me and it's about time I start acknowledging that, even if I'm not quite ready to."
I smiled as I leaned into him, resting my hands on his hips. "I'm not asking you for a solid commitment, Cam. I know you need time. I just want to be more than a piece of ass to you, that's all."
"Believe me...you are so much more than that." He stroked his thumb across my cheek.
I closed my eyes and felt his lips meet mine. He entered my mouth slowly before increasing the speed of the kiss rhythmically with my heartbeat—his tongue pumping in and out of my mouth as he pinned me against the wall. Pulling back his breath was heavy. He released a soft moan as he pushed his body into mine. "I've wanted you all day, Cara. How about we get out of here and get lost?"
"I thought you'd never ask," I said.
We didn't waste any time after parking. Cam had my clothes off and was inside of me within minutes. We didn't even make it out of the cab of the truck. The windows were fogged up from the heat between us and we shook and rattled the wheels of the truck as we climbed to our climaxes.
When we were finished, Cam pulled out a blanket and some pillows and asked if I wanted to watch the stars. So that's what we did.
Lying in the bed of Cam's truck, listening to the perfect sounds of Chris Young's "Lost”, I felt Cam's hand sneak over and grab mine. The warmth of his touch spread through my body.
"Tell me something I don't know about you, Cara," he said, turning his head towards me. "Something normal."
"What's normal?" I asked him, mimicking his actions.
"I don't know..." He paused and looked back up at the stars. "What's your favorite ice cream?"
I laughed, turning my attention to the sky. "Coffee. What's yours?"
"Strawberry. When's your birthday?" he shot right back and I felt as though we were playing twenty questions.
"March seventh. When's yours?" I turned to face him.
"February eleventh. Favorite color?"
"Orange...you?"
"Blue." He rolled over on his side, propping himself up with his arm. "Favorite movie?"
I mimicked his actions again so we were face to face. "Fight Club," I said and a huge smile crossed his face.
"Really? Why?" he asked, his curious grin growing wider.
"Because it's about so much more than fighting, it's about realizing that 'you aren't your fucking khakis’, that things don't matter. Materialism is dumb." I pushed up resting my head on my hand and Cam stared at me with wide eyes. "That and Brad Pitt is fucking delicious in it," I said, wiggling my eyebrows at him.
He busted out laughing. "I knew it had something to do with him."
"Shut up," I said, swatting his chest. "I'd love it even if he wasn't in it. What's yours?"
His eyes darted around like he was about to tell me a huge secret. Leaning closer to me he put his hand up to his mouth like he was going to whisper it into my ear. I bent closer, curious as to what his answer was going to be. "Fight Club," he whispered and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Don't mock me." I pulled away from him.
"I'm
not! I swear. I love that movie," he admitted and I looked at him, cocking my head to the side, silently asking him to prove it. "The things you own end up owning you," he quoted as he stared at me. "That movie made me realize I wanted to fight." His face falling a little at his lost dream.
"What was it like?" I asked him, my voice serious.
"What?"
"Fighting...what was it like?" He shut his eyes and for a moment I regretted asking the question.
"It's addicting, liberating even. At least it was for me." He opened his eyes and gazed up at the stars as he got lost in his own mind. "When you're in the ring, you have no one to help you—it's just you and your opponent. One of you will win and one will lose. You have no one to rely on except yourself and you find out what you're made of real quick. In the ring it doesn't matter who you are, where you came from, or who your father is. The only things that matter are you and your fists."
He sounded proud as he explained it but I felt sad for him. Fighting was everything to him and in one swift moment it was taken from him. I wish I could've seen him fight, just once.
"Do you miss it?"
He didn't miss a beat. "Every fucking day." He looked over at me and a thin smiled appeared on his face. "Amber used to always tell me 'when you walk the path to your dreams sometimes you take a wrong turn and find a new one' and I believe that's what I did. I love firefighting, almost as much as fighting. And who knows, I may have dreams out there I haven't even discovered yet."
Amber.
It was becoming the most annoying sound I had ever heard—buzzing in my ear like a little mosquito searching for its next meal. Cam hadn't been able to shut up about her since Tessa's graduation party last weekend. 'Amber this and Amber that'—it was making me sick.
I don't think he was intentionally bringing her up to piss me off. He loved her and she was a huge part of his life—I get that. It was like that with Lance and me. What I didn't understand was how he could talk about her like she was still a part of his life. I hated talking about Lance. The recollections the sound of his name created suffocated me in fear, making it hard to breath, like a plastic bag was being held over my head. That was why I never spoke about him or that time in my life unless it was absolutely necessary. Cam obviously didn't feel the same and that made it worse. Maybe he was still in love with her.
